Black-Owned Restaurants in the 757

We are facing unprecedented times. Following the murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, the Black Lives Matter movement has reached a fever pitch. People around the country—and even the world—are rallying together to take a stand against racial injustice, oppression and police brutality.

I’ve felt somewhat of an awakening within myself. I am no longer remaining silent to placate those who don’t want to have “uncomfortable” conversations about race in America. I am challenging my own thoughts and activism, as well as my friends’, so we can all do better and be better. Part of this includes finding ways to better utilize my platform to speak out and amplify Black voices.

As a food blogger, the first step was creating a list of Black-owned food businesses, as well as Black chefs, in this region. These restaurants are linked to their websites/Facebook/Instagram pages. My next goal will be to visit as many of these restaurants as possible and create blog posts that highlight the small-business owners, chefs and their food.
