Toastique in South End

Charlotte’s South End neighborhood is constantly growing. The newest eatery to this burgeoning area is Toastique, a gourmet toast and juice bar. I was invited to get a sneak peek at the cafe’s newest location ahead of the grand opening on Saturday, July 20. Keep reading to learn more about what Toastique has to offer and how you can win a $50 gift card.

Toastique Location Opening in South End

Toastique is a Washington D.C.-based chain opening its first location in the Carolinas, at Vantage South End. The Charlotte cafe is bright and welcoming, with high top and booth seating for if you decide to eat in. Although, Toastique’s counter service is also perfect for to-go orders. Unique to the South End location, is a mural of the Uptown skyline on a wall right by the front door.

Another local touch that I love is that Toastique’s coffee beverages, including lattes, nitro cold brew and chai drinks, are made with coffee from local roaster Pure Intentions Coffee.

When I attended the media event, I got a chance to chat with some of the staff working. Everyone was so friendly from the moment my friend and I walked in. They were also incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and were able to provide detailed flavor descriptions of everything we tried.

Toastique’s Menu

If the name doesn’t already give it away, Toastique crafts eight different styles of gourmet toasts, both sweet and savory. Gluten-free people, don’t worry. Toastique thought about y’all too and has an option to order gluten-free bread.

The menu at Toastique in Charlotte.

My personal favorites were the Tomato Burrata, with herbed ricotta spread across rustico toast, pesto, tomatoes, burrata, basil, olive oil and balsamic glaze, and the Smoked Salmon, topped with an herbed cream cheese on sourdough toast, smoked pastrami salmon, arugula, cucumber, pickled onion, capers and microgreens.

Of course, in true Millennial fashion, Toastique’s menu also includes an Avocado Smash toast with watermelon radish, marinated tomatoes, chili oil and microgreens on multigrain toast. If you’re more of a sweets fan, try the PB Crunch, a walnut raisin toast decked out with roasted peanut butter, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, berry jam, granola, peanuts and honey drizzle. I’ll certainly be back soon to try the 3 Cheese Italian which is roasted garlic onion jam, prosciutto, melted Swiss and fontina cheeses, and dressed arugula on jalapeño cheddar toast.

If you aren’t a fan of toast (what’s wrong with you?), you can also order smoothie bowls, smoothies and cold-pressed juices from Toastique. Get your fill with a classic Acai bowl, a Matcha bowl with matcha, spinach, kale and banana, or the eye-catching Blue Mystique bowl with blue spirulina, banana, pineapple and mango.

The Blue Mystique is also available as a smoothie, along with other selections like a Green Machine, Ginger Berry, Orange Crush and more.

An unexpected surprise at Toastique were the refreshing cold-pressed juices. I tried almost all seven of the year-round options and really enjoyed the Recharge. While I don’t love beets on my food, I strangely enjoy beet juice, so this cold-pressed option with carrot, apple, orange and ginger was right up my alley. A staff member referred to its flavor as “earthy,” and I think that’s an apt description. My friend loved the Metabolize, described to us as “a spicy margarita without the alcohol.” A lot of other event attendees talked about how they’d spike this juice, that has cucumber, jalapeño, pineapple, apple and mint, with some tequila. For summer, the seasonal juice with watermelon, ginger and lime was a refreshing sipper that would also make for a great cocktail mixer.

In a hurry? Check the fridge for grab-and-go items, like juices, wellness shots, parfaits, noodle bowls and more. While you’re there, be sure to ask about the vegan soft serve, available in chocolate, vanilla or a swirl.
